Lake Thun Blog
Mattenberg
The alp lies on the path that leads to the Stockhorn via Steinig Nacki-Furgge-Lasenberg. It is also the starting point for wildlife watching in the Mattenstand-Nüschleten area. The view from the terrace or the parlour is impressive, with the upper part of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz at your feet. High above the entrance to the Simmental, contented herds of cows and cattle graze. A feast for the eyes, just like the view of the lakes on the left and the Niesen ridge on the right - magnificent!
WAYS TO THE ALP
The alp can be easily reached by car on the goods road (buy a permit at the ticket machine in Reutigen!). On foot from Wimmis station (629 m) around the Simmenfluh to the east and through the Riedwald forest it is about 6.5 kilometres; or from Reutigen post bus stop (622 m) either on the unpaved goods road for 10 kilometres, or on the steep mountain hiking trail in only 4 kilometres.

SPECIAL
Matten is managed together with the Steinig Nacki alp (Erlenbach municipality, 763-22), which has belonged to the same VZG Bolligen since 1947. The good management does credit to the alp, and the purposefully fertilised pasture soil is striking.
