The most impressive waterfalls in the Bernese Oberland
Around Lake Thun and throughout the Bernese Oberland there are countless waterfalls. Not only the famous Lauterbrunnen valley with its more than 70 waterfalls is meant. The thundering beauties can also be found in the immediate vicinity.
Pochten Falls
In the remote Suldtal, which can be reached from Aeschiried, the 80-meter-long Pochtenfall roars into the valley. The waterfall can be admired again and again from different perspectives on a circular route lasting a good hour. The starting point is the Pochtenfall restaurant in the farthest Suldtal. For ambitious hikers, the Suldtal is one of the starting points for the hike to Brunni or up to the Morgenberghorn.
Giessbach Falls
The magnificent Grandhotel Giessbach is located on Lake Brienz. The nostalgic hotel gets its name from the nearby Giessbach Falls. From the boat station, Europe's oldest funicular runs up to the lower end of the waterfall. On a twenty-minute circular hike, you can even marvel at the impressive Giessbach from the backside.
Trümmelbach Falls
In the magical Lauterbrunnen Valley, the valley of 72 waterfalls, you will be enchanted by the sound of the waterfalls. At the entrance to the valley, in Lauterbrunnen, the Staubbach welcomes visitors to the valley. A little further down the valley, in Stechelberg, the Trümmelbach Falls await. The roaring water is especially impressive as soon as the snow melts and all the water flows into the valley. A walk from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg is worthwhile in the warm season. On both sides of the valley you will be surrounded by the beauty of the falling water. Can you find all 72 waterfalls?
St. Beatus woods
High above Lake Thun are the St. Beatus caves, famous for their stalactites. What is less known, but no less impressive, are the waterfalls that flow directly from the caves into Lake Thun.
