Amara Steuri is in the second year of her commercial apprenticeship at the Belvédère Strandhotel and has already gained valuable experience. Who is Amara Steuri
Amara Steuri is completing a commercial apprenticeship in the hotel, catering and tourism sector. She is in her second year of training and has been working at the Belvédère Strandhotel since August 1, 2024. She previously worked for a year in another hotel, where she gained valuable experience.
As a budding businesswoman, Amara is learning the many different tasks involved in the hotel industry. The main part of her apprenticeship takes place at reception, where she experiences direct guest contact and takes on administrative tasks. She also gains an insight into the areas of marketing, seminars, finance, sales and human resources. In addition to her work at the hotel, Amara also attends the vocational college in Interlaken.

A typical day
Amara's working day begins with reading the handover to get an overview of what has already happened and to prepare herself optimally for the day. This is followed by checkouts, where she checks guests out of their rooms and says goodbye. She then prepares the menus for the restaurant for the current day, prints them out and hands them over to the service team.

In the afternoon, she organizes arrivals for the next day and welcomes new guests at check-in. At the end of her working day, she writes a handover so that the next shift is optimally informed and can ensure the smooth running of the hotel.

What does Amara particularly like about her work?
Amara particularly appreciates the variety in her job. No two days are the same and she enjoys the intensive contact with guests. The direct interaction and working in a lively environment make her job particularly exciting and varied. She particularly likes the fact that she can communicate with guests from different cultures and in different languages.

A commercial apprentice in the hotel industry should enjoy customer contact and be interested in culture and tourism. Flexibility is crucial, as every day brings new challenges. The ability to adapt quickly to new situations and a pronounced service orientation are essential for this profession. In addition, the ability to multitask is of great importance, as several tasks often have to be completed at the same time, especially at reception, where various inquiries can be received at the same time.
