Success story: in conversation with Larissa Jordan
Larissa Jordan began her apprenticeship as an EFZ hotel specialist at Deltapark Vitalresort in 2019. Four and a half years later, she is deputy head of housekeeping at the same hotel. We met her for an interview.
When did you start here and as what?
I started my apprenticeship as an EFZ hotel specialist at Deltapark in August 2019.
What is your current position?
I am currently working as Deputy Head of Housekeeping.
What are your activities in your current position?
Main part of my job: room check. Making sure that the rooms have been cleaned properly. That everything is in its place. Replenishing all missing materials and guest amenities. Checking that everything in the room is working and that nothing is broken. Distributing cards and extra requests to the right rooms and setting up decorations in the room.
Further work: Work allocation of approx. 30 employees. Ordering consumables and materials from employees. Creating checklists for employees. Answering emails. Assisting with the supervision of our five EFZ hotel management trainees. Supporting the housekeeping manager in her tasks where I can.
What do you particularly like about your job?
The variety. Every day brings a new surprise, a new challenge every day and new people around me every day. The many cultures you get to know. Whether it's the guest or the staff. I also particularly like making people happy, making the stay special for the guests.
Why did you choose the company? What characterizes the Deltapark?
At the time I started my apprenticeship, I wanted to get away from home and see something different. But I still wanted to be able to return home quickly. I thought the location by the lake was beautiful and the move to another canton was really exciting. I fell in love with Deltapark during my work trial and I couldn't imagine working anywhere else. So I made the journey from Valais to Gwatt every day.
I know exactly why I stayed here after my apprenticeship. In the three years of my apprenticeship, I learned and developed a lot. Deltapark was there for me in every respect and helped me on my way. Deltapark offers its employees lots of training opportunities and helps them to develop further. I took advantage of this opportunity. Deltapark is now a second family to me and I come to work every day with a smile on my face.
What are your future career plans?
I'm just starting my further training in "Management in the hotel industry - housekeeping". I'm not sure what I'll do afterwards. However, I have learned in the past not to plan life too far ahead. A year ago, I would never have thought that I would now be Deputy Head of Housekeeping.
