Describe for us what a typical day looks like for you as Deputy Chef de Réception at the Belvédère Strandhotel. Does that even exist?
You can't compare one day with another. There are certain processes that have to be completed every day - for example, hourly checks, revenue management, and guest work with check-in and check-out. But the different guests always make the day very varied. You never know what to expect and no check-in can be compared to another.
What do you like most about your job?
The guest contact and thus getting to know the different cultures, languages and people. It gives a lot of pleasure when the guests are happy and refreshed.
You have been working at the Belvédère Strandhotel for almost 3 years. What makes this place of work so special for you?
The location is gorgeous and of course the hotel itself is great. I think the Captain's Bar with this view is just gorgeous. The team also makes this place very special, of course. It plays a big part in whether you enjoy coming to work or not.
What are the biggest challenges in your everyday life? How do you deal with them?
Our ultimate goal is a completely satisfied guest. That's why the biggest challenge is probably when a guest is dissatisfied. I then try to find a solution together with the guest. In addition, it can also be stressful and hectic in a hotel business, but you must always try to keep a cool head.
What advice would you like to give to all those who are considering an apprenticeship in the hotel industry?
They should go sniffing around in different hotels, preferably in different star categories. That way, they can find out what suits them best. I think a basic education in the hotel industry is a great advantage. You can go in different directions after your training. Whether it's going abroad on a cruise ship or spending a season in the mountains. The world is open to you.
Your workplace is located on Lake Thun. Do you take advantage of this location during your free time?
Of course! The region offers a lot, you never get bored. In summer, swimming in the lake during the room hour offers great refreshment and a brief moment to switch off.
You started as a receptionist at the Belvédère Strandhotel and are now deputy head of reception. Would you say that the chances of promotion in the hotel industry are good?
The opportunities for advancement are very good in the hotel industry. The expertise is very large and can be applied everywhere. At Hauenstein Hotels, great importance is attached to the fact that one can grow and is also rewarded for good performance.
