Most beautiful hike around Lake Thun - Up on the Morgenberghorn
"Hanspeter, 67, grew up on Lake Thun and is still an enthusiastic mountain hiker - that's me.
There is hardly a peak that you can see around Lake Thun that I have not climbed. To this day, I am fascinated by the magic you feel after you reach the summit and enjoy the view, which is always unique in a different way. It is a moment of peace, gratitude and joy.
To master the challenging 4.5-hour summit tour on the Morgenberghorn, you need good basic fitness, surefootedness and sturdy shoes, but it is considered an insider tip and is far away from the tourist crowds of other peaks in the region.
The tour starts above Aeschiried at the Pochtenfall restaurant. In order to enjoy the 360° view from the summit, the route goes via the back Leimerwald up to Brunii. Now follows the somewhat more difficult part of the hike, it goes over a steep section secured with chains to the Morgenberghorn. Once you have reached the top, you are rewarded for the physical exertion - there it is again - the magic.
Uniqueness as far as the eye can see, the impressive 4000-metre peaks of the Bernese Oberland, the shimmering blue Lake Thun and the Mittelland all the way to the Jura, every change in the angle of view brings a different fantastic view.
After a rest, the trail continues over the Rengglipass, down over the Mittelberg and Schlieri Alps back to the starting point. There you can relax and cool off at the Pochtenfall, which is worth a visit in itself.
