Winter kayak tour on Lake Brienz
While looking for a different winter activity, I came across the winter kayak tour. It was quickly clear - let's do it! An unforgettable experience of a different kind.
On an early Tuesday morning in February, we are warmly wrapped up and standing in front of the lido in Bönigen on Lake Brienz, where the Hightide Kayak School is located. We are warmly welcomed by the staff. Shortly afterwards we pick up our equipment. In our cosy trainer trousers, sweatshirt and two pairs of warm socks, we get into the dry suit and receive a briefing on kayaking and the important safety instructions.
Equipped with a cap, dry suit and life jacket, we then get into the kayak. From Bönigen we glide across the water to the opposite shore of the lake. The weather is slightly foggy, though the atmosphere is priceless. It is calm, almost mystical and as there is no wind, the lake is as smooth as glass. To experience nature and the lake in this way - a unique experience.
We continue up the lake along the steep embankment and discover the land from a different perspective. After an hour of paddling, we head for a gravel bank. After getting out without anyone falling into the water, we fortify ourselves with delicious biscuits and a warm punch.
After our refreshment, we get back into the kayak and paddle across Lake Brienz. After a kayak race and a few nice snapshots to remember it by, we head back to the lido. Here we don't miss the chance to jump into the ice-cold Lake Brienz with our dry suits and "swim" a round in it.
At midday this three-hour adventure comes to an end. To warm up, we enjoy a warm chocolate in Interlaken on the way back.
A winter kayak tour is definitely a different kind of experience that I highly recommend. Get on your paddles and get going - book your trip today! #MyHightideMoment
