On two wheels on the Heart Route 99
Like conventional bicycles, e-bikes offer exercise in the fresh air; as with other electricity-powered vehicles, almost two-thirds of the energy comes from renewable sources.
For today's excursion we decide to take the Herzroute 99, which leads from Laupen to Thun. We leave the pretty old town of Laupen and after the castle, which is well worth seeing, we reach the Grossen Forst, an extensive forest area. The fairytale Scherligraben with the Scherlibach stream awaits us.
From Niederscherli we are done dreaming, we conquer the wild Längenberg. We are rewarded with a panoramic view of the Jura, the Alps and Lake Thun. After a break on the Bütschelegg including a battery change, we plunge into the descent towards Riggisberg and Gürbetal. Then we marvel at a legacy of the Ice Age: the moraine lakes embedded in gentle hills around Amsoldingen.
There you can take a detour to the Grizzlybär country inn and then to what is probably the oldest building in the canton of Bern, the Amsoldingen church, before arriving in Thun via Zwieselberg and Gwattberg.
Total length of the route:
64 km, natural surface, 14.9 km, altitude difference 1100 m
Recommendation:
The Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (BFU) advises wearing a bicycle helmet, considering the increased braking distance, riding defensively and proactively, and ensuring visibility at all times - day and night.
