The most beautiful shore paths around the lakes of Thun and Brienz
Water has a calming effect on us humans. No wonder we love to spend time at lakes. In the Bernese Oberland, we are doubly lucky with Lakes Thun and Brienz. We are pleased to introduce you to the region's most beautiful lakeside trails in the following article.
Beach path from Spiez to Faulensee
This walk starts in Spiez, in the most beautiful bay in Europe. Right next to the public swimming pool, a narrow path goes along Lake Thun to Faulensee. During these 45 minutes of walking, the view of Lake Thun and the Niederhorn is fantastic. The first half hour the path leads mainly along the forest. Even in summer, there are many shady spots and small swimming bays here. In the last quarter of an hour, the path is no longer protected by trees. But the view of the mountains and all the way to Interlaken is unobstructed and breathtakingly beautiful. From Faulensee, the way back can be done on foot or by boat.
Aarequai - from Thun to Hünibach
In the city of Thun starts this beautiful path along the water. Exit Obere Hauptgasse, on the Sinnebrücke, a staircase goes down to the Aare. This is the same path that leads from Mühliplatz to the Aare. From there, you first walk along the Aare, with a view of Schadau Castle, to the front of Lake Thun. From there, the view of the mountains and the opposite side of the lake is unobstructed. The path continues to the Schifflände in Hünibach, where it is possible to rest in the Restaurant Buvette. From Hünibach it is possible to take the boat back to Thun or to walk back the same way in a good half hour. The way back on foot is rewarded with the most beautiful view of Thun's old town, Thun Castle and the church.
Lakeside path from Iseltwald to the Giessbach Falls
In just under two hours, one of Switzerland's most beautiful lakeside paths takes you from picturesque Iseltwald to the Giessbach Falls. Along the turquoise-blue Lake Brienz, the path winds through forests and across green meadows. There are also bathing bays all along the way. Arriving at the Grand Hotel Giessbach, it is worth taking the time to marvel at the thundering Giessbach Falls. The return trip by boat to Brienz or Interlaken is recommended.
Unterseen shore path
This varied lakeside trail leads through the Weissenau nature reserve. In one hour, you can get from the Interlaken West train station to Lake Thun, more precisely to Neuhaus. At the upper end of Lake Thun, the view in the direction of Thun is magnificent. Enjoying the last rays of the sun while having a picnic and watching the sky change from blue to yellow, red and orange is unique. From Neuhaus you can also walk back in the direction of Unterseen to Interlaken Ost. This takes about an hour and a half.
Shore path Bonstettenpark Thun
From the train station in Thun through the magnificent Bonstetten Park, the walking trail leads along Lake Thun to Gwatt near Thun. In Bonstettenpark there are several barbecue areas and bathing bays. The view of the mountains and the lake is guaranteed almost the entire walk. After almost two hours of walking, a detour to the terrace of the Vitalresort Deltapark is obvious.
