Schwäbis river pool - the plunge into the Aare

Jumping into cool water on a hot summer's day - one of the best feelings ever! In Thun, this is not only possible in Lake Thun, but also in the Aare, the river that meanders leisurely through the town.
The Aare flows through the middle of the town of Thun from Lake Thun towards Bern. In summer, it is common to see adventurous people jumping from various bridges into the Aare and floating through Thun. For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, the Schwäbis river pool is an excellent choice. In a short, quiet section of the Aare, you can enjoy a relaxing swim and cool off.
To add a bit of variety to the day, it is possible to play table tennis, for example. The rackets for this can be hired directly from the Schwäbis Flussbad. The same applies to the hire of sun loungers and parasols. Children can let off steam on the slide or in the sandpit.
If you're hungry, the restaurant on the banks of the Aare not only serves good food, but also offers views of the green-blue water and the mountains.
The Schwäbis river pool is open daily in summer.

A place with history
TheSchwäbis river baths are not only a popular meeting place on hot days - they are also a place with a long tradition. The original Schwäbisbad was opened back in 1887, making it one of the first river baths in Switzerland. It was a wooden building with changing rooms, a diving platform and a secured bathing area. Back then, bathing was not separated into zones, but at different times - depending on gender. Women and men did not share the pool, but used the baths at different times. This regulation corresponded to the social sense of decency and public appearance at the time.
In the 1930s, the baths were extensively renovated after a flood. Many Thun residents still associate the Schwäbis with their childhood memories - be it of swimming lessons, their first courageous dives or relaxing summer days on the sunbathing lawn. A visit to the Schwäbis is therefore not only a refreshing experience, but also a short journey into the past.

A bathroom for everyone
Whether you are looking for peace and quiet, simply want to drift away or are planning a fun afternoon with family or friends - the Schwäbis has something for everyone. The relaxed atmosphere, the gentle murmur of the Aare and the view of the Bernese Alps make this a feel-good place in the middle of the city in summer.
