When the first flowers bloom and the sun bathes the mountain peaks in warm light, it's the ideal time for a spring hike. A wide variety of routes await you around Lake Thun, ranging from gentle lakeside paths to spectacular high-altitude trails. Whether you are a leisurely pleasure hiker or an ambitious hiking fan - everyone will find the right route here. We have selected seven wonderful hikes that show spring from its most beautiful side.
Riverside walk Thun

This relaxed hike leads from Thun railroad station along the River Aare and Lake Thun to Gwatt. Right at the start of the route, it is worth making a detour to the over 1000-year-old church in Scherzlingen before continuing on to the idyllic Schadaupark with Schadau Castle. Along the lakeshore, you pass the shipyard and the Thun lido before the walk leads via Bonstettenpark to Gwatt. Tip: the Deltapark at the end of the route is a great place to stop for refreshments.

The path of the three waterfalls

Experience a varied hike along the turquoise-blue waters of Lake Brienz, past three spectacular waterfalls: the Erschwandenbach Falls, the Mülibach Falls and the imposing Giessbach Falls. The route leads from Bönigen via Iseltwald to Brienz and offers a fascinating mix of lakeside paths, forests, rugged cliffs and wide meadows. Highlights of the hike include the historic funicular railroad dating from 1879, the fairytale Grandhotel Giessbach and the option of rounding off or shortening the tour with a boat trip.

Aeschi circular bench trail

Numerous benches with magnificent panoramic views of Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps await you on this leisurely circular trail. The varied route leads through green meadows, sparse forests and idyllic landscapes - perfect for a relaxed hike with plenty of opportunities to linger. Thanks to the moderate gradients, the circular route is ideal for leisure hikers.

Simmental house path

Experience the impressive carpentry skills of the Simmental valley: the Simmental House Trail takes you past ornately decorated farmhouses that reflect the wealth and craftsmanship of past centuries. The route runs through picturesque villages and repeatedly offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountain landscape. Thanks to the well-signposted paths, the hike is a pleasure for culture vultures and nature lovers alike.

Hünibach-Goldiwil: Picturesque hike through the Choleren Gorge

This varied hike leads from Hünibach to Goldiwil. The highlight of the route is the Choleren Gorge, where the rushing Cholerebach stream with its waterfalls and pools offers an impressive natural spectacle. Once you have made the ascent to Goldiwil, wonderful views of Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps await you before you return to the starting point.

From the Alpine town to the foot of the Stockhorn

This easy hike takes you from the western outskirts of Thun through an agricultural landscape to Blumenstein at the foot of the Stockhorn. Along the way, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Bernese Pre-Alps and High Alps. On the way, you can take a short detour from Uebeschi to the nearby Lake Uebeschi.

Panorama circular trail around Lake Thun

Experience Lake Thun from ever-changing perspectives: The varied multi-day hike (or a day hike for the more ambitious) leads high above the lake, past historic sites and impressive natural landscapes. One highlight is the two suspension bridges over the Spissibach and Gummischlucht gorges, which offer spectacular views.
