Behind the scenes with Jasmin Rossi - service employee at Restaurant Burehuus

Position: Service employee at Restaurant Burehuus
Hobbies: spending time in nature and with family and friends
My highlights in the Lake Thun region: Lake, mountains, central location - everything is within easy reach
Describe for us what a typical working day is like as a service employee at Restaurant Burehuus.
I work part-time from Wednesday to Friday in the evening. Much is already prepared by the person who does the lunch service, such as setting the tables. My procedures are therefore very similar. First I get the information about the reservations in the evening, here I pay special attention to the special wishes of the guests or with a group I check the menu selection. In the kitchen I get the information about the amuse bouche or other information about the dishes. Before the guests arrive, I always check the mise en place for completeness. Once the guests have arrived, I take care of their well-being throughout the evening.
What do you particularly appreciate about the Burehuus team?
We are a good, well-rehearsed team. You can almost say that we understand each other blindly. Sometimes eye contact with the team is enough and they immediately know how they can support me. I really appreciate working together in the Burehuus team, especially the support you get. Because even in stressful situations we work together - we look to each other.
What do you like most about your job?
The contact with guests gives me the most pleasure. The best thing is when the guests could spend a nice evening and they leave the restaurant happy and satisfied. That fulfills me. In another, earlier job in maintenance, I missed the guest contact the most. It is therefore even nicer to work again in the profession I originally learned.
You work in an industry with irregular working hours. What do you like about it or not so much?
I have two children. With the irregular working hours, I can reconcile this optimally. I can spend the whole day with my children and have time for my family. In the evening, when they go to bed, I go to work. That way you have time for both and don't have to cut back anywhere. So there is really nothing negative for me.
Your workplace is centrally located in Thun and close to Lake Thun. Do you also benefit from this location in your free time?
Yes, especially during the warmer months I can spend a lot of time in nature with my family. The region offers endless possibilities here. For example, hiking in the mountains or "Bräteln" at the lake.
What advice would you like to give to anyone considering an apprenticeship in the hospitality industry?
The gastronomy and hotel industry offer many opportunities. There are small or large businesses, down-to-earth inns or star-rated establishments. It is important to get to know different businesses and "get a taste". This way, everyone can decide for themselves which size and type of business suits them best. And most importantly, enjoy your profession and be proud of it.
