With Tradition and Vision: A Family-Owned Business Shapes the Region

For 70 years, Hauenstein Immobilien AG has been providing affordable home ownership in the Lake Thun region. But that’s not all—the Hauenstein family also operates some of the best hotels and restaurants in the area, as well as the Schönberg Clinic in Gunten. In this way, this family-owned business, deeply rooted in tradition, continues to enrich the region with its innovative and sustainable projects.

It all began in 1954, when Walter Hauenstein laid the foundation for the success story of Hauenstein Immobilien AG with a sole proprietorship. By acquiring various properties over the years, he was able to steadily expand the company and make a name for himself in the Lake Thun region. In the 1980s, his son Peter—who had once studied law—joined the company and played a key role in further enhancing its excellent reputation. Since 2020, the third generation—twin sisters Andrea and Nathalie—has been at the helm, spearheading contemporary transformation processes.

Throughout the years, Hauenstein Immobilien AG’s guiding principle has always been to build not only for the top 20 percent of the population, but also for the middle class. This is possible because the company acquires land itself and, together with long-standing local partners, develops all kinds of properties on it. Some of these are sold, while others are managed as rental apartments. With its extensive portfolio, the family-owned company provides homes for well over 6,000 people around Lake Thun—enough to fill a small town!

Belvédère Strandhotel, Deltapark Vitalresort, Solbadhotel—these names are widely known. Each of these three exclusive hotels is unique in its own right, yet they are united by their outstanding service and unparalleled location on Lake Thun. Adding to the experience are the Burehuus restaurant and the Grizzlybär adventure park, which pamper guests with a diverse culinary offering. There’s particular excitement surrounding a new project by the “ Hauenstein Hotels ,” which promises entirely new wellness experiences: With private spa suites and a “Wellness 2.0” area, Deltapark is redefining relaxation.
“A hotel is like a family—there’s hardly any other industry where things are so familiar and personal.” Nathalie Hauenstein
“It’s wonderful to help people become homeowners, because in doing so, we help them fulfill their lifelong dreams.” Andrea Hauenstein
But it’s not just real estate and the hotel industry that are being developed—healthcare is also a key priority. The Schönberg Clinic in Gunten, which specializes primarily in orthopedic rehabilitation, makes a significant contribution to ensuring the availability of care in the Swiss healthcare system. The management of residential properties, real estate, and the clinic provides jobs for around 650 people. And with over 50 apprentices, the company is ensuring that skilled workers will be available in the future as well. It is therefore clear just how influential this family-owned business is—the Hauenstein name is an integral part of the Lake Thun region.
