Wellness Amid Nature on Lake Thun: Arrive, Breathe Out, Unwind

Surrounded by two nature reserves, the Deltapark Vitalresort is the perfect place to recharge and leave everyday life behind. Right on the shores of Lake Thun, guests will find an impressive variety of offerings that go beyond a mere wellness area. The Deltaspa, housed in the distinctive tent-like buildings from the 1960s, spans four floors and 2,000 square meters. The resort is located within a highly sensitive ecosystem: respect for the surrounding natural environment is essential.
Peace, relaxation, and pure enjoyment in an exclusive atmosphere
This unique site—70,000 m² in size and located directly on the lake—was preserved for a reason. Originally established as a youth camp in the 1930s, the Deltapark site was rezoned for public use. This put a stop to potential land speculation early on and, at the same time, set a clear course for the resort’s tourism development. Today, this is the resort’s greatest asset: total tranquility, despite its proximity to the city—and an unspoiled natural environment.
Gwattlischmoos and the Kander Delta
The nature reserve at the mouth of the Kander River gave the Deltapark its name and is today both a popular local recreation area and a protected zone for flora and fauna. Deer and foxes are frequent visitors to the Deltapark—anyone who takes a walk along the edge of the forest early in the morning or at dusk (or often just looks out the window) is sure to have some surprising encounters. The Deltapark is also the starting point for exclusive visits to the observation tower in Gwattlischmoos. Along with the delta to the east, the marsh to the west forms the second “flank” of the resort area. The bird sanctuary, designated as a site of national importance, explains the absolute ban on drones and aircraft in this zone—as well as the diverse chorus of birdsong all around the hotel.
Can a wellness hotel be sustainable?
When the Deltapark Vitalresort was designed, steps were taken to minimize the hotel’s energy footprint in the long term: Elimination of oil-fired heating and replacement with pellets. Consistent heat recovery in the laundry, spa, and kitchen. Photovoltaic systems and solar panels on all roofs except the main building. Consistent conversion of food waste into biogas. Reduction of motorized vehicles on the grounds through the use of electric shuttles and delivery vehicles. Use of robotic electric lawn mowers on all large green spaces. Furthermore, extensive areas were deliberately returned to nature through the creation of a natural Kneipp pond, a spawning zone in the new lagoon, and a fruit and herb garden. Deltapark also launches or supports a special eco-initiative every year: in 2020, the “plant for the planet ” (guests receive a chocolate bar; for every four bars, a tree is planted) and the “reuse-me” flip-flop initiative in 2021, which eliminated single-use flip-flops in the spa, thereby saving 1,500 kg of waste per year. Opened in 2016, this 4-star superior hotel features 106 rooms spread across various buildings. A truly exclusive feature: the three lakeside villas, where some guests may feel as though they’re on a yacht. Four restaurants, each with its own culinary focus, round out the experience of relaxation and indulgence. The wellness area features a saltwater pool, an outdoor hot tub, and various saunas and steam rooms spread across four levels, as well as an extensive fitness and treatment area using natural products from the Lucia Rapetti line and selected aromatic and massage oils from Phytomed.

By creating a natural Kneipp pond, a spawning area, or a fruit and herb garden, extensive areas of nature have been restored.
