Schilthorn - on the trail of James Bond
On the direct way to the Schilthorn
Through the enchanting Lauterbrunnen Valley, the valley of waterfalls, you reach Stechelberg. On the way through the valley, in the warm months, quite a few waterfalls can be spotted, which are cascading down into the valley from both sides. At the station of the Schilthornbahn the gondola is already waiting to take you to Mürren every half hour. At the moment you have to change trains once in Gimmelwald. The reconstruction work for the direct connection to Mürren has already begun and should be completed in the next few years.
After a ten-minute ride over the steep Mürrenfluh, the car-free mountain village is reached. Here you change to the next cabin, which goes in the direction of Birg and Schilthorn.
BIrg - view with thrill
On the second stop towards Schilthorn, a special highlight awaits you. Along the steep rock face, with a view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, a footbridge made of glass and grids has been installed, on which everyone can put their fear of heights to the test. In the Bistro Birg the reward is waiting for the brave ones.
Schilthorn - the mountain with spectacular 360 degree view
After another change to Birg, the summit is reached. At just under 3,000 meters above sea level, a paradise awaits James Bond fans and mountain lovers. In the "James Bond World", a small interactive museum, there are all kinds of things to see and discover. A helicopter ride à la James Bond? A toboggan ride through the famous Bon Run? Or a visit to the cinema with the best clips shot in the Schilthorn area? All this and much more is possible here.
In the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant, the connoisseur will also discover relics from famous scenes from the James Bond film. The James Bond brunch is especially recommended. Every morning a rich buffet with breakfast and lunch dishes is provided for the guests. A reservation is mandatory.
For those who like a little more exercise, there is of course the possibility to hike from Stechelberg, Lauterbrunnen or Mürren to the Schilthorn. A strenuous hike that is rewarded with the breathtaking view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
Visiting Mürren
For those who have enough time, a stopover in Mürren is worthwhile. The small mountain village is a real bijou. Traditional chalets, green pastures and nestled in the proud Bernese Alps, Mürren lies at 1,600 meters above sea level and is the ideal getaway for those who like it cozy.
