Thun Water Magic 2026: When Water, Light, and Music Enchant Thun

As the Hauenstein Hotels , we feel a strong connection to the Lake Thun region. That’s why we support projects and events that bring people together, highlight the diversity of our region, and create special experiences. The Thun Water Magic event combines all of these elements in a truly impressive way.
Start your magical water adventure with a sense of enjoyment
Combine your visit to the Thun Water Magic show with an enjoyable evening in and around Thun. How about dinner at Restaurant Burehuus in Thun before the show ? Or at the Deltapark Vitalresort? There, you can choose between Restaurant Delta and the flavorful dishes at Deltaverde Thai Cuisine.
The event then continues to downtown Thun, where water, light, and music transform the Aare basin into a spectacular stage. This turns the water spectacle into an atmospheric fall evening filled with enjoyment and excitement.
If you'd like to extend your evening a bit, combine your visit with an overnight stay on Lake Thun and enjoy a little getaway in the region.

Two shows, two completely different worlds
Visitors can look forward to two different shows in 2026 as well. Every evening, the “Blüemlere” and “EDM – Electronic Dance Music” productions will be presented in the Aare basin in front of the Freienhof restaurant. The combination of towering water fountains, lights, lasers, and music makes each of the approximately 20-minute shows a feast for the eyes and ears.

"Blüemlere": A Journey Across Lake Thun
"Blüemlere" takes you on a musical steamboat cruise across Lake Thun. Local dialect melodies blend with international hits to accompany a story closely tied to the region and its shipping history.
The production combines familiar images of Lake Thun with surprising moments and playfully highlights just how much history, emotion, and character our region has to offer.
"EDM – Electronic Dance Music": Thun Moves to the Beat of Electronic Music
The second show takes a distinctly different tone. “EDM—Electronic Dance Music” evokes a time when Thun, with the Selve River and clubs like the “Nachtwerk” and the “Basis,” became a hub for the electronic music scene.
Musically, the show takes the audience on a journey through different eras of electronic music—from early pioneers to modern sounds. Combined with water, light, and lasers, it creates a dynamic journey through time that brings a piece of Thun’s nightlife back to life.

Water Becomes a Stage
What makes the Thun Water Magic so special is the interplay of its individual elements. Water fountains move to the rhythm of the music, colored beams of light highlight them, and laser projections create images that seem to float on and above the water.
The Aare River basin itself becomes part of the production. The historic backdrop of downtown Thun provides the setting for a modern show that blends technology with its surroundings.
It is precisely this contrast that makes the “Water Magic” an experience that is difficult to describe in words—you have to see it for yourself.
Conscious Use of Water and Energy
The use of resources is also part of the event concept. About 12 million liters of water are drawn directly from the Aare River for the fountains and then returned to the river’s natural course.
According to the organizers, the electricity needed comes from the Aarewerk Thun power plant and is generated by hydropower. Modern LED technology also helps keep the energy consumption of the lighting design low. The food stands also use reusable tableware to reduce waste.

Working Together for a Vibrant Lake Thun Region
The Lake Thun region thrives on its landscape—but just as much on the people, ideas, and events that shape it. That is why the “ Hauenstein Hotels ” have been supporting selected cultural, sports, and recreational projects in the region for many years.
The Thun Water Magic festival embodies exactly what we hope to promote through this initiative: shared experiences, creativity, a sense of regional connection, and moments that will be remembered.
