Brunch in Thun - the Burehuus Zmorge
Thun is a wonderful alpine town that offers a wealth of things to do in a small area. A lively and authentic town right on the water and at the gateway to the Bernese Oberland. On an early Sunday morning, however, you can enjoy the peace and quiet and the serenity of the Bernese Oberland.
By car, we are in Thun from Bern within 30 minutes. There are plenty of free parking spaces in front of the Burehuus restaurant, which is located a little outside the city centre at Frutigenstrasse 44 in Thun. The Burehuus is also easily accessible by public transport. It takes just under 5 minutes by bus from Thun railway station to the "Hohmad" bus stop.
Even from the outside, we notice the attention to detail here. The beautiful farmhouse is lovingly decorated with geraniums, "Holz-Schiiterbigeli", old carts and much more. There is even a vegetable garden in front of the house. Later I learn that the harvests from the vegetable and herb garden are always on the menu.
We were warmly welcomed in the restaurant and were enchanted by the cosy, detailed décor. The buffet is explained to us at the table with a view of the Brunnenschopf with its adjoining terrace.
The breakfast buffet is distributed in various places in the restaurant. This is an ideal solution, because you never get stuck in a "buffet jam". We head for the bread first, as the beautiful and fragrant Züpfe captivates us immediately. Right next to it is the warm buffet. Here we have golden-crispy fried rösti and next to it bacon and scrambled eggs - it couldn't be more burehuus.
After the first round, we help ourselves to the cheese and meat platter with regional specialities. Those who prefer fruity treats can put together a muesli with the many different fruits and the fine yoghurts. While enjoying the regional cheeses, the service staff informs us that the dessert buffet is now ready. We don't need to be told twice and treat ourselves to the homemade delicacies at the end. We end the morning with a cappuccino on the terrace, with the warming autumn sun on our faces, and get in the mood for a cosy afternoon in the Lake Thun region.
My conclusion: I can highly recommend the Burehuus Zmorge. Whether with your partner, family, work colleagues or friends - with this great, regional selection of dishes, everyone will find something to their taste and will be full.
