The Lake Thun region is full of places that are perfect for taking memorable photos: turquoise-blue water, historic castles, charming old towns, scenic overlooks, and little moments of enjoyment with a view of the lake. In this post, we’ll show you our updated photo spots around Thun, Spiez, and Sigriswil—including new favorite spots that you won’t want to miss on your next trip to Lake Thun.
You may already be familiar with some of these classics from our previous post. For this updated version, we’ve expanded our list and added new photo spots.
Thun Mill Lock
The Mühleschleuse is one of the most beautiful photo spots in Thun. This is where the Aare River, the historic lock, and the charming old town come together. In the summer, the lock is often decorated with flowers, creating a particularly colorful scene. Thun Castle and the town church are visible in the background, and with a little luck, you might even spot river surfers on the Aare. If you’d like to end the day on a high note, you can perfectly round out your outing with dinner at the Burehuus Thun.

Captain’s Bar at the Belvédère Strandhotel
The Captain’s Bar at the Belvédère Strandhotel is not only a stylish place to take a break, but also a particularly beautiful photo spot with a view of Spiez Bay and Lake Thun. The ship’s-bow-shaped terrace, the teak flooring, and the elegant ambiance make the bar especially photogenic. The menu features specialty coffees and cakes, creative cocktails, wines, and small dishes such as the Captain’s Burger, tarte flambée, and snacks. Lunch is also available.

Thun Castle with a view of the castle church and the mountains
If you want to photograph Thun from above, the castle offers a truly professional photo spot. The view over the rooftops of the old town, the castle church, Lake Thun, and the surrounding mountain landscape offers a stunning panorama with great depth. This spot is especially beautiful in the soft light of morning or evening.

Panorama bridge Sigriswil
The Sigriswil Panorama Bridge remains a classic photo spot on Lake Thun. The suspension bridge offers spectacular views and an impressive panorama of the surrounding landscape. If you enjoy taking photos that capture height, vastness, and a bit of a thrill, this is the place for you. The trip can be perfectly combined with a visit to the nearby Solbadhotel Sigriswil—ideal for a relaxing break with a view.

Town Hall Square, Thun
Town Hall Square is one of the most atmospheric spots in Thun’s Old Town. Historic facades, the town hall, and the view of Thun Castle make the square a classic Thun scene. It’s ideal for anyone who wants to capture architecture, the charm of the Old Town, and history all in one photo.

Vineyard overlooking Spiez Bay
Spiez is home to some wonderful wines. Hauenstein Hotels several of them on the wine list at Hauenstein Hotels as well. And where wine is produced, the vineyard is usually not far away. We think the vineyard is a great backdrop for capturing the lake, Spiez, the castle, and yourself in the perfect light. And while you’re there, be sure to visit Spiez Bay and the castle as well. The spot is especially beautiful when the light casts a warm glow over the vines and Spiez Bay glistens peacefully in the background. It’s an ideal setting for anyone who wants to combine indulgence, scenery, and that quintessential Swiss vacation vibe. Afterward, you can perfectly round off your outing with a drink, coffee, or a little moment of indulgence at the Captain’s Bar in the Belvédère Strandhotel.

Aarequai Thun
From the Aarequai, Thun reveals its picturesque side. The Aare River in the foreground, the Old Town along the waterfront, and Thun Castle above create a beautiful postcard scene. This photo spot is particularly well-suited for classic shots of Thun featuring the water, history, and the charm of the Old Town.
