Winter time is mulled wine time - the best mulled wine recipes
During the cold winter days there is something that can not miss in any case - the mulled wine. Whether at a Christmas market or at home in the garden, a warm mulled wine makes hearts shine and makes an evening with friends or family unforgettable.
But if you don't feel like mingling with the crowds at the Christmas markets, you can invite your loved ones to your home and make the mulled wine yourself. Or you can meet in the forest and spend the evening with mulled wine by the open fire with a view of the winter starry sky.
The most important thing in advance: as far as the choice of the base wine is concerned, we stick to the old wisdom: you should only use wine for mulled wine that you would drink as it is.
Recipe red mulled wine
Ingredients
1 bottle (7,5 dl) of strong red wine (e.g. Merlot or Barolo)
50 g raw sugar
2 oranges
1 lemon
1 cinnamon stick
2 cloves
2 star anise
3 cardamom pods
Preparation
Juice the oranges and lemon. Bring the wine with the juice and spices to the boiling point in a pan, stirring occasionally (do not boil). Remove pan from heat and let steep covered for about 10 minutes. Heat the mulled wine again, remove the spices. Fill into cups, decorate with orange slices and cinnamon sticks and enjoy.
Recipe white mulled wine
Ingredients
1 bottle (7.5 dl) of white wine (e.g. Riesling or Chardonnay)
70 g sugar
1 apple, sliced
1 vanilla pod, halved and pith scraped out
1 cinnamon stick
2 cardamom pods
1 star anise
Preparation
Bring wine with all ingredients to boiling point in a pan, stirring occasionally (do not boil). Remove pan from heat and let steep covered for about 10 minutes. Heat mulled wine again, remove spices. Fill into cups, decorate with apple slices and cinnamon sticks and enjoy.
Non-alcoholic mulled wine
A mulled wine can of course be prepared non-alcoholic. To do this, you simply use a non-alcoholic wine. The preparation of the recipe remains the same.
Our tip for the non-alcoholic wine:
For a red mulled wine, use non-alcoholic red wine or unsweetened grape juice. For a white mulled wine Rimuss Dry Bianco (non-alcoholic) is ideal.
When things have to go fast
You can also buy mulled wine spice. It contains the necessary spices, as well as dried oranges and lemons. The wine must therefore only be boiled with the mulled wine spice and is immediately ready to serve. You can get the spice at a Christmas market or you can order it online.
A positive side effect, if you prepare the mulled wine yourself at home - the apartment smells wonderfully Christmassy afterwards. :)
Have fun preparing and enjoying.
